My whole family unit just beloved it!! Instead of using jar of dried beef I just use 8oz. thin slices of beef lunchmeat "Budding" and information technology a lot cheaper!! I was surprised at how easy this recipe was. At offset i was concerned that there was too much beef for the recipe but it turned out perfect! Well, I started reading the reviews and found that most of them were the same. This is what we used to accept in the Air Forcefulness and called it SOS simply it didn't correspond "Same old Stuff". It stood for "S*** on a Shingle" and most of the states asked for it by that name. Pepper wasn't in the classic recipe and if y'all want to keep it classic you cannot add any of the other "stuff" either. I have always used the Buddig packs. If you want to try something better try using the Buddig packs of ham - substituting it for the beef. I call it "Sham on a Shingle" and information technology is the merely manner that I arrive now.

Unlike other "reviewers," I prepared the recipe exactly as written. I used the dried beef chosen for, non hamburger or Walmart beefiness. Despite the fact that the beef label but suggested, rather than specifying, rinsing the beef, I did not exercise so because the recipe never mentioned rinsing. While the recipe is excellent, I quite often make information technology using very lean ground beef. Chocolate-brown the beef in a modest pot, add together the flour to the beef,stir, then add the milk to the mixture. It will thicken quite fast and eliminates the task of making a roux. I so add together a impact of wostershire sauce and some onion powder, garlic powder and salt/pepper to taste.

This is a good starting point! My husband has been talking about the creamy chipped beef his mom served him when his was a child then I decided to go far for him. For this much sauce, a 2.5 oz jar is more than sufficient for u.s., and helps keep it less salty overall. For the poster who was wondering was additional spice could be added ... the secret is ever nutmeg. A SMIDGE but, not more than that, lends a nutty spice to this dish, much like it does to Alfredo sauce. I made this this night and served information technology over toast cubes. Recently, I found myself craving this recipe although I hadn't eaten it since my early childhood. My family of six wasn't exactly poor simply we had to make simple meals stretch far so the 'chipped beefiness' was Land-O-Frost lunchmeat, the toast was English muffins, and seasoning was table salt and pepper. The men in the family love this but I use four TB butter, 4 TB flour and 2 cups of milk and ii pkg corned beef. I heat the ii cups of milk in microwave for a couple minutes and add milk all at one time to the roux and then I don't have to spend forever stirring it.

And to those having trouble making white sauce, you can mix the milk & flour together first (I utilize cold milk, or one-half & half) in a measuring loving cup and add to melted butter all at in one case.

DH requested I make this. I have to admit I really did non want to but glad I did.I tasted a bite off of DH'due south plate, it isn't bad and really easy to make. Only draw back is the sodium content. DH ate the whole affair so that was 6,564mg of sodium. I would blow up similar a airship. Upon a review and suggestion I used luncheon meat and I would accept to say use the stale beef it would had been much better. The cream sauce seemed to be missing that season that comes with it and that may had been due to using the lunch meat instead of the dried beef. Then I would maybe try this once again but I would use the dried beef and maybe a tablespoon more of butter.

I had left over corned beef from a brisket I had fabricated and used this instead of the jar beef. I used the nutrient processor and chopped information technology all up. I made a double batch for 2 teenage boys. I warmed the milk in the microwave offset for v mins that way it doesn't scald and makes it faster to make. I likewise warmed the meat in the microwave for two mins. I too added a pinch of garlic salt because it was too banal for my gustation. While the milk was in the microwave I made the butter flour mixture, and when the meat was in the microwave I did the toast and so put the meat in the sauce and it was done in 10 minutes. Very easy and fast and the kids ate it all!!!

We all enjoyed this chipped beef for dinner (myself, my husband, my 5 year sometime son and iv year old daughter). I rinsed the beef, but I think that I must take "over" rinsed it. I rinsed every single piece while running the residuum of the beef under water in a collander. The event was that it actually concluded up needing salt, IMO. This is my own fault of course. :n) the cream was great, and side by side fourth dimension I'll exist less meticulous with my rinsing. I increased the sauce as some others did and this turned out perfect! I've made this before several times, but never with the cayenne and it made a wonderful difference. I also like to put some scramble eggs on top of mine too...simply another picayune touch that makes information technology improve.

It only makes plenty for two people or cover iv pieces of toast and the chipped beef is really salty even though I rinsed the chip beef in hot water and allow it boil in the roux. Next time I'll double the recipe and boil the chipped beefiness in water before adding to the roux.

I take been making chipped beef on toast for years. I start out with olive oil instead of butter. More healthy. Add flour slowly to oil, lower heat and stir until it gets slightly brownish. Add milk and several drops of Wright's full-bodied Hickory Seasoning (liquid smoke). salt & pepper to taste. In the Navy they call it (SOS- on a shingle)

This is my girl'south all-time favorite breakfast. She eats information technology once a calendar week. I utilize the Buddig brand Corned Beef and poultry seasoning instead of cayenne. Over Xmas suspension used leftover cubed ham instead and cream instead of milk, just as good, if not better.

my mom used to brand this and i had been peckish it! came out perfect the 2nd time...the get-go time i made a big oops! didn't wash the beef off...i didn't know to practice it and it was pretty much inedible. 2nd time around i rinsed information technology and it came out perfect! so for anyone else that has never cooked with dry beef...be warned! rinse it beginning :-)

The married man could not go enough of this yummy comfort food. I used Carl Buding beef and doubled the sauce. The cayenne pepper gave it a footling heat which was nice, add more if you like the spice. Served with veggies on the side. Will be making this one once more and over again.

I tripled the sauce and used half a pd of stale beef chipped from the deli. We eat this when we go out for breakfast. You lot can put information technology over scrabbled eggs, fried taters, or the nigh pop is toast. I liked this better than what we become out, and anybody in the business firm liked it. Thanks for the recipe.

Nosotros are beef farmers and dried beefiness is in the freezer. This is just about the only way we similar dried beef. I was looking here for more ideas of what to make with it and found that I had already tried them all: chicken broil, creamed beef, and overnight casserole. Our favorite way of eating creamed beef is either over fried hash browns or waffles. I always seasoned this with a niggling bit of nutmeg and beef goop and seasoning powder, only tonight I will try the pepper.

Good stuff, like what mom made merely w/ an added kick. I use the beef in the plastic bag, and that works fine. I like how salty this recipe is. But, I'yard an admitted saltaholic. :)

This is an one-time stand-past recipe that I take prepared for my family for years. I utilise 2 packages the Buddig beefiness, double the cream sauce and add just a nuance of both onion pulverisation and garlic pulverization, forth with salt and pepper to gustation earlier I chop and add the beef and serve over toast. With these changes, I'd give this recipe five stars. A quick and like shooting fish in a barrel repast!

Had a deep desire for creamed chipped beef tonight. Existence just after mid-March I also had some leftover corned beef. Used information technology in this basic roux recipe and it is wonderful. Thanks Lisa for posting. Too my begetter taught me how to cook very rich and then I used 1/three heavy whipping cream to 2/3+- pure water as my liquid in making my roux. Much creamier taste and texture= richer flavor.

I've been making this dish for years, I commencement slicing the dried beef, them plunging it briefly into humid water to remove some of the salt, and so saute information technology in butter, add cornstarch and then milk till ti thickens to desired consistency. season westward/a bit of white pepper... that'due south the authentic fashion to make information technology!
